The lid has a very good tight seal to the canister. Perhaps too good because it is rather hard to pry the lid off with your fingers. I screwed a piece of wood to the lid to act as a sort of lever. See pictures. Now when I pull the “handle” to the side, the lid easily pries loose from the canister.
I recommend the canister. Its worth the price. It keeps my coffee fresh. It would have been 5 stars except for what I had to do to it. And you can get a round knob (or something like that at many stores) to attach to the lid from the top or bottom quite easily.

Fits a little less than a 12 ounce bag of coffee beans. Attractive, has a good seal and is much cheaper than other options. With a couple it allows you to vary your coffee type when doing single dose. This product is very functional at a very good price.
