A full-length Hercule Poirot novel, adapted from Agatha Christie’s stage play by Charles Osborne

Sir Claud Amory’s revolutionary new formula for a powerful explosive is stolen. Locking his house-guests in the library, Sir Claud switches off the lights to allow the thief to replace the formula, no questions asked. When the lights come on, he is dead and Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings have to unravel a tangle of family feuds, old flames and suspicious foreigners to find the killer and prevent a global catastrophe.

BLACK COFFEE was Agatha Christie’s first playscript, originally performed in 1930 and made into a now rarely-seen film the following year. Combining her typically beguiling plot and sparkling dialogue with his own faithful narrative, Charles Osborne’s novelisation is ‘A worthy addition to the Christie canon’ (The Spectator)

Not as good as her novels though despite being a play it was good. Agatha Christie never disappoints. Should have been longer.

BLACK COFFEE was not written as a novel by Agatha Christie, it was rather a play which was novelised by Charles Osborne, AC’s biographer.

Hercule Poirot investigates a murder of a nuclear scientist whose invented formula can fetch millions. A fast read and a thin Hercule Poirot, the ending of which, however, seem to me as an anti-climax to the build-up of the mystery.

The same nature of setting though (have read only 6 of Hercule till date)- a house or a mansion or a place where a number of people present at the time of murder and the murderer turns out to be one of the people present.

One of Christie’s lesser known works, I found it a very pleasant surprise. The price offered through this seller is excellent.

This is a classical work of detective fiction by the most famous name in detective fiction since Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes author). Brilliantly plotted and very well written and reasonably priced on Kindle store. Definitely well worth a read.

This book is adapted from Agatha Christie’s stage play. The setting of the entire drama is entirely indoors. Being a big fan of Agatha Christie works, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. But by her own high standards, the element of intrigue is not very keen. Good for a quick weekend read. 4 stars!
