Flower painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté (17591840) devoted himself exclusively to capturing the diversity of flowering plants in watercolor paintings which were then published as copper engravings, with careful botanical descriptions. The darling of wealthy Parisian patrons including Napoleons wife Josephine, he was dubbed the Raphael of flowers, and is regarded to this day as a master of botanical illustration.

This book comes in 2 sizes. I purchased the smaller version so I can frame the prints. With a nice matted frame, you can add elegance and color to your home on the cheap. Yes, I’m cutting up the book. I also plan on framing some of the florals to give as gifts to my mom, daughter, and friends. This book contains a huge variety of flowers to choose from. Very pleased with the quality.

I bought this book to potentially frame the illustrations but to my understanding it has been reduced in size in this new printing. It is smaller than an 8.5” x 11”. So my idea didn’t pan out. For flower illustrations it needs to be a much larger book to appreciate it more. 9” x 12” at least. But it still is pretty.
If you are a crafter or artist you will love it.
It is about 2” smaller on both sides than an Edith Holden Country Diary book for comparison. But a 1/2” thicker. If this matters to you as it did for me.

The book in itself is just amazing. It is good for artist reference. My only complain is that the packaging should have been better. I recieved book with its corners damaged and last page (just a advertisement) torn out. Mine came in a plastic bag only and it can be assumed that it was damaged during transit.
